Knotty Green 1 vs Harpsden 2
It looked like it would be a long day in the field for Knotty Green when Harpsden won the toss and chose to bat in what were particularly friendly batting conditions.
It appeared however that Knotty’s bowling line up were up for the challenge, with Mike Widdowson (5-45) bowling 4 maidens with his first 4 overs of the day; one of which contained a wicket. With the rest of the Knotty bowling attack bowling tightly, the away team were 37-2 when the friendly batting conditions paired with short boundaries took effect. S Burgess (67) and A Burkett (114) both cashed in, the latter especially after being dropped on 37. Some tight bowling in the middle overs from the spin brothers of Jonny and Tommy Patel however kept the Harpsden team down to a modest 248-7.
In reply Knotty didn’t get off to the greatest of starts, with A Patel (1) departing very early in the chase, and Jonny Patel (15) falling soon after. A rebuild was required and in T Patel (90) and P Searing (66) this was achieved with some very patient batting and solid stroke selection in a pressure situation. Whilst the total was still achievable, the scoreboard pressure remained and T Patel was eventually out attempting a quick single against the keeper’s arm. Searing departed shortly afterwards holing out mid-off. With new batsmen in and very few overs remaining, Knotty managed to reach the end of their allotted innings, finishing on 208-3 for a respectable draw
