The summer of 2018 will probably be best remembered for its incredible weather, the best summer since 1976 (although there will be plenty of groundsmen who would not agree with that, as outfields were burnt dry).
I am pleased to tell you that KGCC senior teams enjoyed another good and successful season. We have played in the Chiltern League for the past 3 seasons and in that time our 1st team have gained 2 promotions. In 2018 they finished runners up in Div 1, just 5 points behind Denham, the winners, after a very strong finish which saw them take maximum points from their last 3 matches. Captained by Tommy Patel, the team seemed to gain in strength throughout the season, with Johnny Patel achieving the best batting aggregate in the division with 697 runs, with Tommy second on 553 runs and Dharak Pandya 5th on 382 runs.
Mike Widdowson, once again, was our leading wicket taker with 29,(2nd in the division) followed by Priam Desai (18) and Himanshu Patel (15).
The 2nd team, having been promoted last season, were looking to consolidate, which they did, finishing 4th out of 8 in Division 2. Once again a Knotty batsman, Nick Scott, was the division’s leading run scorer with 565 runs. Armpit Shah also scored 415 runs to finish 4th in the division.
Armpit Shah was also the 2nd’s leading wicket taker (24) followed by Jack Patel (17) and Ina Rundle (11).
There has been, and continues to be, a fair amount of change with the Chiltern league. Having lost 8 teams to the Thames Valley League last season, it has been necessary to form some alliances with the Berkshire League and the Mid Bucks League. There will be further discussions between the leagues over the Winter 2018/19 and we will have to wait and see what form of cricket we will be playing next season.
